COUNTRIES VISITED:New York
PLACES VISITED:Syracuse
SUGGESTED DURATION:1 Days
Start with a visit to the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. Explore the wetlands, migratory birds, and enjoy natural beauty. There's also a seasonal drive route which I highly recommend. Don’t forget your binoculars!
Take a drive along the Erie Canal route. Admire the locks, bridges, and visit the Mentz Church, a historic church founded by settlers. Don't forget to grab a bite at a local eatery. Some regional specialties are salt potatoes!
Later check out the Montezuma Audubon Center where one can spot wildlife, including birds, turtles, and bald eagles. If you’re a birdwatcher, bring your field guide and identify as many species as you can!
Try renting a kayak to wander through the calm waters. Explore the hidden channels and coves. Then dine at a cozy local restaurant. Try some freshwater fish or farm dishes. If a hotel is needed, there are many in nearby Auburn. We recommend the Holiday Inn -we can gladly book for you. Enjoy your time in this picturesque corner of NYS!
